Race Review: Omaha Marathon, Half Marathon, & 10K

Saturday, September 25th was the Omaha Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K. I opted to be a part of the Half marathon this year!

This race has the reputation for being a hilly course, and even after a course change due to massive flooding this summer it did not disappoint. There were about 5,000 people enter in all races combined, everyone started at the same time, which made the energy at 7am absolutely amazing! The route itself didn't exactly showcase the brightest and best of Omaha. We ran through the downtown area, which is nice...but it quickly turns to a ghetto. In fact....there were 2 shootings the day of the race only blocks away from where runners were. Click HERE for the news story. There was only one port-a-potty per water stop which lead to several runners heading to bushes along the race course....considering the territory....I held it until mile 8. The pit stops for this race were not good. Long lines at the potty hurts times.

I will say that the finish for this race made up for a lot!!! It was awesome! We ran through a crowded street section and busted into TD Ameritrade park to cross the finish line and be handed the coolest medal by marines dressed in their DRESS UNIFORMS!!!       Deep Sigh...make me melt!

The medals for this race were all made out of recycled glass. Each one was hand pressed and unique. A side note....they also double a sun-catchers! How fun is that!

All in all I think the Omaha Marathon is a great race, lots of great energy, great non-profit organizations were recognized, and create swag! With a few adjustments to the course I think Omaha could be represented in a much friendlier light. Omaha is a great city and I love living here, I look forward to being apart of the Omaha Marathon next year!
