Running Like an......Astronaut??

If you recall from a previous post, I ruptured a popiteal cyst in March. I've been struggling with pain, swelling, and have been having difficulty with mobility ever since.

Boooooo.

So I started physical therapy. I am happy to report I have been having great success!

We've actually started running too!

On a Alter-G Treadmill.

Essentially, it is an antigravity treadmill. It takes off your body weight and allows you to continuing running without as much impact.

So, after a brief warm up on the bike, I slip into my rockin' blue Mizuno Wave Inspire 8 shoes
and then this ever flattering pair of shorts...

They are like wetsuit material and they zip my into the treadmill.

We pull the treadmill bubble  up to my waist, zip the shorts to the bubble, and it fills with air.  It fills with enough air to lift me up, it can be adjusted to allow for a variety of settings providing more or less weight bearing.

My fave Mizuno shoes and my fave green Nike hat!

I started at 1/2 mile with 50% weight bearing. It felt super weird! It was like I was running on a cloud!

At the last appointment, I ran 2 miles at 70% weight bearing. This week we are going to try a full weight bearing run and if all goes well I will be released to hit the trails by next weekend!!!!

At first I felt like Boy In The Bubble, all awkward and weird. Now, I've decided it's more like astronaut training. Much more badass!

When in doubt, always be an astronaut right????
Unless you can be Batman, then always be Batman!

Product Review: Perfectly Posh

My Friend, Angie, recently became an independent consultant for Perfectly Posh.  Perfectly Posh offers spa grade in-home pampering products that are super fun and super amazing. Angie sent me a few samples to review and let me tell you....I was impressed!

Angie sent me two body scrubs to try. Brown Sugar Baby, shown in the picture, and Sugar Fix.

These little sample tubes were perfect for a one time use!

I used the scrubs on both my arms and legs. The Brown Sugar Baby smelled like the oatmeal cookies that I make from scratch....I smelled delish! The Sugar Fix had a much lighter, sweet scent...more my style.

I followed up with a quick shave of the legs too!

Post shower, I used the Body Butter she sent with me, Plain Posh (pictured) and Sister, I'm A Poet.
Totally fun names!!

This little dollop on my finger easily covered my entire leg. That tiny sample tube covered my whole body!! It was a rich, creamy lotion but it absorbed quickly, wasn't greasy, and left my skin feeling absolutely amazing.

I actually caught myself rubbing my own leg while warming up before a cycling class (that I was teaching). Got a couple of weird glances. **Palm-to-face**

These products are really amazing. Here's the best part...

All Perfectly Posh products are naturally based, gentle, sulfate free, and contain no parabens, parafins, soy or gluten. Also...they are cruelty free!

I am really looking forward to using the Bath Chunks, aka big bars of soap, she sent with me. A BIG thank you to Angie for setting me up with some fun, girly, spa products. I really enjoyed testing them out!!

Product Review: TRX

When I opened my personal training business in 2011, I immediately began paying close attention to products that offer a lot of bang for just little buck. Products that are diverse in use and function that can give clients a full workout. One product that I particularly found useful was the TRX. I became a TRX certified trainer in 2012!

TRX is suspension training. The workout system utilizes leverage and gravity to preform hundreds of different exercises allowing the user to be in complete control of the workload by simply adjusting body position.

My Client, Jeanne, worked her entire body in a very short amount of time. She is forced to completely stabilize her core during each and every exercise in order to perform the exercises.

Here she is doing a piston squat.

We completed a variety of squats, lunges, push-ups, bicep curls, tricep presses, and much more.

After that....we focused solely on core. Planks, tucks, pikes, and more....

As you can see.....she was spent!

TRX is a very effective tool. What is even more great....it's very inexpensive!
