DON'T MAKE RESOLUTIONS!!

I see it every year…..The New Years Resolution Crowd.

Those group of folks to go completely insane gun-ho at the gym…..make it about 5 weeks….and I don't see them again. Some lose motivation, some get hurt from over doing it. Whatever the reason is…..they are gone. Granted….I appreciate and applaud any effort to improve your health but resolutions never seem to last.

Resolutions are big lofty ideas about what we want to do differently, they are vague, ill-defined, and typically not planned out. Example…" I'm going to get in shape this year". What does that mean? What shape? Lose weight? Lose Body Fat? Gain weight? Run a race? What does "get in shape" mean to you??

I am encouraging everyone to NOT MAKE A NEW  YEARS RESOLUTION!!!

SET GOALS!

How are they different?  A goal is a dream with a deadline. A goal has a plan, is measurable, and has an end result.

So, I've been pondering my goals for 2014…..here's what I have come up with…

1. I will set a new Personal Record in a Half Marathon

Game plan: tempo runs, hill training, pounding the pavement
Measurable: My last half mary time….2:10….that's the time to beat
Deadline: I am registered for two half marathons….Feb.2 and May 4th!

2. I will set a new Personal Record in Olympic Distance Triathlon

Game Plan: More tempo runs, killer pool workouts, and quality time with Carl (my bike)
Measurable: My time is beat is 3:26
Deadline: I am heading to DC Sept 7th for the Nations Triathlon!

See where I am going with this???

I also encourage you to make goals for all areas of your life!  My non race related goals…….

Health: Get my body fat to 17% by September 1.
Financial: Build my nest egg to a specified amount by years end.
Educational: I plan on obtaining a nutrition based certification. I've been researching several options and am super excited about the possibilities!

So what are your goals? What do you want to accomplish and what are you willing to do?

Set your goals high, make a plan, and work for it!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
