Motivation and Inspiration from the Pros

A good friend of mine, Kelli, recently opened her own fitness studio, Sweat, Cycle, & Soul. She offers group cycling and yoga in a trendy, fun private studio.

I have been taking her Power Yoga class for part of my off season training. I want to get good and strong before I head into the Full Ironman training season!!

This picture of me was taken today, during class.

Tonight I attended the Talkin' Tris and Motivation Clinic at the studio! Snapple sponsored Pro Triathlete, Morgan Chaffin, was on hand to provide a little insight into training for Ironman Triathlons.

Here's Pro Triathlete Morgan with Studio Owner Kelli

Morgan taught a 30 minute cycling class while offering training tips for triathlons.

One tip included pretending like your down in the aerobars during spin classes and focusing on cadence.
 Practice makes prefect!

The second portion of the clinic was Yoga for Athletes.

We stretched, strengthened, and toned every square inch. She did a lot of hamstring stretching and upper body strengthening to help us athletes who tend to have tight hammies and weak cores.

 Me, Morgan, and Kelli

Kelli treated everyone to wine and munchies after the clinic. We all chatted about past events, training tips, training plans, and upcoming races.

It was a fun evening! A big thanks goes to both Morgan and Kelli for hosting such a great evening!

Stay tuned for a guest post from Kelli!!

The Maiden Voyage of Bike and Body

This past weekend we took a trip down to Ft. Worth Texas to visit some friends! It was my first trip to Texas!

In case you didn't know....it's just over 10 hours to get from Nebraska to Texas.
Boo.

The BEST part of the trip....the new Bike's Maiden Voyage!

My new Trek Lexa SL. She is AMAZING! She rides smooth, shifts wonderfully, and makes a ride almost effortless!

Most importantly, I got to spend some quality girl time with one of my closest friends, Jenni!

Jenn and I at a pitstop on one (of two) 25+ mile bike rides!

We cruised, chatted, and enjoyed our beverages! It was great!!

We also got to spend some quality family time together too!

The Ft. Worth Stockyards Parade

The big boys riding a big long horn at the Ft. Worth Stockyards

All the boys at Lego Land!

It was a great vacation! We all really enjoyed spending time with the Carter Family as well as family time of our own! We are very lucky to have such hospitable friends....and ones that will go on long bike rides with you!!

Product Review: ENERGYbits

If you read my last post, you will remember that I have recently upgraded my social media realm pretty significantly by adding in Twitter and Instagram. I have to say....I am loving both! I have found so much more info about running, nutrition, an motivation than I ever thought I would!

One company that caught my attention was the company called Energybits.  Energybits produce products that contain spirulina and chlorella in a variety of combinations to provide the consumers with supplements that promote energy, recovery, weight loss, and vitality. Check out their website click here

My friend Mo, over at girlgonebeast, is an Ambassador for Energybits and hooked me up with a sample.

What are Energybits you ask???

Energybits are Spirulina tablets.

Spirulina is a blue green algae that has shown to have both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities and is also a complete protein. For more info on Spirulina click here

Energybits recommends you take 30 tabs before activity to enhance energy and endurance. I'm not much of a pill popper, so 30 tabs seemed a little excessive to me. I decided to add a handful of tabs into my regular vitamin routine.  I take a multi-vitamin, St. John's Wort, and Glucosamine & Chondroitin.

This pic has all of those, plus about 10 Energybits.

I have to admit, the results were impressive. I had a great day! I had a ton of energy, no crash, and felt phenomenal!

So I decided to try taking Energybits on their own to see if I got the same results.

We drove down to Ft. Worth Texas this past weekend, a 10.5 hour road trip!

Here's a pic of my feet up on the dash during our drive ;-)

When it was my turn to drive, I took an handful of Energybits, probably about 12-15 tabs, before I sat behind the wheel.

Same results!

I had a ton of energy, no crash, and felt great! I flew across Kansas and into Oklahoma! It was great!

Energybits are sold in packages on 1,000 for $115. Basically it works out it about a month supply. It's a little on the pricey side but the product definitely seems legit!

I'm hoping to sample the Recoverybits! With training for a full ironman this year I know I could use all the help I can get!

Try them for yourself and see what you think! I'd like to hear your thoughts!

Meatless Monday

Meatless Monday is an international campaign that encourages people to not eat meat on Mondays to improve their health as well as the health of the planet!

Why Monday you ask???

"Meatless Monday is a non-profit initiative of The Monday Campaigns Inc. in association with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for a Livable Future. Meatless Monday was founded in 2003 by marketing professional Sid Lerner The program follows the nutrition guidelines developed by the USDA. Meatless Monday is part of the Healthy Monday initiative. Healthy Monday encourages Americans to make healthier decisions at the start of every week. Other Healthy Monday campaigns include: The Kids Cook Monday, Monday 2000, Quit and Stay Quit Monday, Move it Monday, The Monday Mile, and others.
Meatless Monday focuses its initiative on Mondays for multiple reasons. Monday is typically the beginning of the work week, the day when individuals settle back into their weekly routine. Unhealthy habits that prevailed over the weekend can be forgotten and replaced by positive choices. A weekly reminder to restart healthy habits also encourages success. A 2009 trial published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine provided individuals with weekly health prompts and encouragement. Approximately two thirds of participants responded with improvements in their overall health, eating habits and physical activity levels." source

So...How did I celebrate Meatless Monday??

This is the first time I have tried this brand, I was impressed. Easy to make and a great taste.

I put 1 cup on a bed of lettuce...

I used a bag of Italian lettuces and stirred it up, it tasted great. However, I took the Quinoa straight from the pot and dumped it on the salad, the hot and cold combo was not that appetizing. Next time I will let the Quinoa cool before placing it on top of the greens.

The Geeky Athlete

I haven't taken much stock into social media, other than Facebook, and tonight I realized that I am totally missing out!!

Wow....I feel old just typing that!!

ANYWHO...I signed up for a twitter account. I am still getting used to the lingo, but I think I am catching on quickly!

Once again....I feel old just typing that!!

I also downloaded instagram on my phone. I'm not 100% sold on this one, but I really like all the special effects I can add into my pictures!

However, the most important discovery I made this evening while signing up for all this social media stuff is that not only can I follow friends, but I can stalk celebrities.....legally.

Now, many of you know that I am mildly obsessed with this man...

Jason Statham

....and clearly for good reason! Instagram and Twitter have totally taken my obsession to a whole new level!!

So, if you need me and can't find me at the gym...I'm on my computer....stalking Statham!
